  • In beautiful Málaga, Spain — a historic city in Andalucía, surrounded by mountains, the Mediterranean sea, Moorish castles, and vibrant Spanish culture.

  • They typically begin in September and run for 3, 6, or 9 months. You'll start the fall with team building, training, and language learning, and finish the program equipped for life and mission in any context God calls you to.

  • Spiritual formation, language and cultural immersion, hands-on ministry, mentorship, and travel. You'll grow in faith, gain tools for cross-cultural engagement, and experience the beauty of Spain — including walking part of the Camino de Santiago!

  • You’ll serve alongside local believers in a post-Christian context—engaging youth, immigrants, and communities through relational evangelism, discipleship, and church planting initiatives.

About the Program

  • Young adults ages 20–30 from any country who love Jesus and want to grow in faith, explore their calling, and engage in cross-cultural ministry.

    You don’t need to speak Spanish to apply, but if you already know some, it will definitely be helpful! (If you are not already fluent, Spanish language lessons will be built into your weekly schedule.)

  • We accept applications on a rolling basis, but space is limited—early is best! Start by filling out the interest form on our website! From there, we’ll guide you through the application, interview, and onboarding process should you be accepted.

  • We’re looking for teachable, humble people who are hungry to grow in their relationship with Jesus. If that’s you, we’d love for you to apply! Space is limited and we are currently accepting 3-5 interns for each cohort.

  • That’s okay—this program is designed to help you discern next steps! La Ruta is a safe, guided space to explore what God might be calling you to, whether that’s cross-cultural missions, local church ministry, or marketplace impact.

  • No. You do not need to speak Spanish to apply for the program. We’ll help you learn as you go through language classes and immersion. Some of the trainings will be in Spanish as part of the immersion experience. If you already know conversational Spanish, that’s a huge bonus—but fluency is not a requirement.

Application & Selection Process

  • The total cost for La Ruta depends on how long you would like to serve (all cohorts begin in late September). You can fundraise or choose to self pay, or a combination of the two. All funds must be raised before the start of the internship. Here’s an idea of some approximate costs of the internship for non-Spanish residents:

    • $8,000 (3 months)

    • $20,000 USD (9 months)

    These budgets include housing, meals, language classes, ministry training, and travel within Spain. You'll also participate in over 100+ hours of spiritual formation and ministry training and receive one-on-one mentorship/discipleship.

    (price does not include: airfare to/from Spain, expenses for residency visa, mandatory Spanish private health insurance)

  • Yes! We’ll walk with you through the fundraising process and provide tools, coaching, and encouragement to help you invite others into your journey.

    We partner with TMS Global to help you process your funds through tax-deductible donations to pay for your internship.

  • No, fundraising is not required — you’re welcome to self-pay or do a combination if preferred. However, we strongly encourage support-raising as a way to invite others into your journey and experience God’s provision through community.

  • At this time, scholarships are not available. However, we’re committed to helping you through the support-raising process and will equip you with tools and encouragement to reach your funding goals.

  • During your internship, you’ll share an apartment in Málaga, Spain with your fellow interns—creating space for community, hospitality, support and encouragement.

  • Absolutely! The program includes planned excursions to experience culture and ministry in other parts of Spain like Sevilla, Granada, and Córdoba. You'll also have some free time on weekends and holidays to explore Spain’s rich culture, beaches, and history.

    For those who choose the 9-month experience, you’ll participate in a capstone experience in May where you’ll walk alongside other interns from your cohort for 5 days along the Camino de Santiago (spiritual pilgrimage) in the Northern province of Galicia.

  • Yes — for our 6 and 9-month interns, you’ll need a residency visa to participate in the internship program. We’ll walk you through the process step-by-step and give you a detailed visa guide and help you stay on track with timelines. Preparing the documents will typically take 3-4 months and can typically cost around $300-$500 USD along with travel to your regional Spanish consular office.

    A few key requirements include:

    • A valid passport

    • A letter of acceptance from the program (we will provide this)

    • Proof of Spanish health insurance coverage

    • A federal background check

    • A trip to the nearest Spanish consulate (in your country) to submit documents
